In the first three years at Nendrum College pupils will receive four periods each week (2 hour 20 minutes). Pupils can then opt to study Double Award Science, Single Award Science or OCN Science.

Key Stage 4
Double Award Science
Unit B1: Biology External written examination 11%
Unit C1: Chemistry External written examination 11%
Unit P1: Physics External written examination 11%
Unit B2: Biology External written examination 14%
Unit C2: Chemistry External written examination 14%
Unit P2: Physics External written examination 14%
Unit 7A: Practical Skills Part A Booklet A Externally marked 7.5%
Unit 7B: Practical Skills Part B Booklet B External written examination 17.5%

At KS4 our pupils follow the CCEA GCSE Double Award Science Specification. This specification aims to encourage students to develop their knowledge and understanding of the material, physical and living worlds; develop their understanding of the effects of science on society; develop their understanding of the importance of scale in science; develop and apply their knowledge and understanding of the nature of science and of the scientific process; develop their understanding of the relationships between hypotheses, evidence, theories and explanations; develop their awareness of risk and the ability to assess potential risk and potential benefits; develop and apply their observational, practical, modelling, enquiry and problem solving skills and understanding in laboratory, field and other learning environments; develop their ability to evaluate claims based on science through critical analysis of the methodology, evidence and conclusions both qualitatively and quantitatively; and develop their skills in communication, mathematics and the use of technology in scientific contexts.

Single Award Science
Unit 1: Biology External written examination 25%
Unit 2: Chemistry External written examination 25%
Unit 3: Physics External written examination 25%
Unit 4A: Practical Skills Booklet A Practical skills assessment 7.5%
Unit 4B: Practical Skills Booklet B External written examination 17.5%

At KS4 our pupils follow the CCEA GCSE Single Award Science Specification. This specification aims to encourage students to: develop their knowledge and understanding of the material, physical and living worlds; develop their understanding of the nature of science and its applications and the interrelationships between science and society; develop their understanding of the relationships between hypotheses, evidence, theories and explanations; develop and apply their observational, practical, enquiry and problem-solving skills and understanding in laboratory, field and other learning environments; develop their ability to evaluate claims based on science through critical analysis of the methodology, evidence and conclusions; and develop their skills in communication, mathematics and the use of technology in scientific contexts.

OCN Science
Unit 1: Biology - Life processes and Living Things
Unit 2: Chemistry - Materials and their Chemical Properties
Unit 3: Physics - Physical Processes

At KS4 our pupils follow the OCN Science Specification. The OCN NI Level 2 Certificate and the OCN NI Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Science qualifications will provide learners with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding in a range of key concepts within Biology, Chemistry and Physics and builds upon the Key Stage 3 science curriculum.
