Key Stage 4
Art and Design
Unit 1: | Exploratory Portfolio, Investigating the Creative and Cultural Industries | Controlled assessment | 60% |
Unit 2: | Externally Set Assignment | Controlled assessment | 40% |
At KS4 our pupils follow the CCEA GCSE Art and Design Specification. This is a broad course exploring practical work through a range of 2D and 3D processes. This includes: Drawing, Painting, Collage, Printmaking, Textiles, Ceramics and Design work. Pupils create two portfolios worth a combined 60%. One addresses the Formal elements of Art through experimental mark making techniques and media. A second project to develop the final outcome. Pupils learn about the ways in which artists, designers and craftspeople work and this understanding is incorporated into the Art to guide and inform direction. This increases critical awareness, giving improved understanding and a greater artistic vocabulary. In the second year of the course, pupils respond to a stimulus worth 40% by interpreting a given theme through a variety of artistic processes.
